TubeSock 3.0 Beta 17 is out. And the it’s the best one yet. And not just because it’s a prime number. Download it now!

The YouTube download code is now fixed. We had to scrap the original YouTube download code. In its place is a new YouTube downloader written from scratch. This new method is actually a little bit quicker, in fact.

And while we were in there, we added support for their new, high-quality videos. If the video is already in the format you want, there’s no conversion necessary!

It also still works for other video sites like The Onion, DailyMotion, Porkolt, TeacherTube, GodTube, GospelTube (not to mention the unmentionables PornHub, YouPorn, and RedTube).

We’ve tested with a ton of videos, but since this is all-new code, there’s always the chance that some video will wreck havoc. If you find any videos that file to download, please post it in the comments, or email it to us at support@stinkbot.com.

TubeSock broken again

Good thing we didn’t release 3.0 final yesterday.

Apparently, at some point between midnight last night (when we released TubeSock 3.0 beta 16) and this morning, YouTube changed something yet again, and TubeSock gives those “file doesn’t exist” messages once more.

Now, it’s not a total loss. TubeSock 3.0 beta 16 still works for video sites like The Onion, DailyMotion, Porkolt, TeacherTube, GodTube, GospelTube (not to mention the unmentionables PornHub, YouPorn, and RedTube).

But we’ve got some work to do. So, thanks for your continued patience. If anyone gets around to testing beta 16 on a PowerPC, we’d love to hear how it works (for non-YouTube sources, naturally).

TubeSock 3.0 beta 15

Mike Canny caught a bug in TubeSock 3.0 beta 14 where the “Save as Mac” format would crash with TeacherTube videos. That’s fixed in the new beta 15 (download TubeSock 3.0 beta 15 here!) along with the elimination of a few more debugging strings. Please give the beta a try and let us know if you have any problems.

Also: So far in our poll, it looks like Goole Video is the #1 choice for video service to support. Let us know what sites you want us to add!

Update: Mike says we fixed it for Intel, but it’s still crashing for PowerPC. If you run into the same thing, please post your crash log in the comments.

iPhone Sumo! 1.0 (and 1.0.1)

Sumo! for the iPhone is here! Well, technically, not here, but on the App Store.

Sumo! is a game previously made for the web (at www.theblip.com, our previous company) and later re-made for Palm OS. We’ve gussied up the graphics and made ourselves a little iPhone game.

Sadly, because it’s surprisingly hard to have beta testers, Sumo! 1.0 had some bugs — a couple pretty bad ones, too. We fixed all we could find and uploaded a new build last night. If you’ve already downloaded Sumo!, look for the 1.0.1 update in the App Store today.

911 Is No Joke

Hey lardass! I see you’re working out with your new iPhone! So, what’ll you do if the old ticker kicks and you’ve only got three hand motions left before you black out? Not such a cool phone now, is it? Hmmm?

Yeah, we thought of that. Here’s a one-click dialer for emergencies — just poke the button and you’ll be talking to the fuzz. Seriously, don’t press the button unless you want to be talking to 911. You have to press the button a second time to confirm, but it’ll call right after that. To cancel, press the Home button.

Note: to use this, you’ll need to know how to install third party software on your iPhone. Update: Ste said he’ll add this to his source feed, so you should be able to use Installer.app to install it directly on your iPhone. You can get Installer here.

TubeSock for Mac 2.0.2

TubeSock for Mac 2.0.2 is here! This release fixes the disappearing preview bug (caused by last week’s Apple Security Update 2007-006). Also, the vocal minority who complained about our use of brushed metal will be pleased to learn that the fix involved moving to a “unified” interface look. Yessir, we’re Leopard-ready! Well, at least from a GUI perspective.

Also, support for recently-introduced “international” YouTube URLs (such as http://uk.youtube.com) has been added. This should solve the “too many redirects” error that some users have been seeing.

And finally, we haven’t finished figuring out the new DailyMotion system, but we’ve improved the error handling. If TubeSock runs into trouble, we now display a nice message explaining the situation.
