TubeSock 3.0 beta 17
October 24th, 2008
TubeSock 3.0 Beta 17 is out. And the it’s the best one yet. And not just because it’s a prime number. Download it now!
The YouTube download code is now fixed. We had to scrap the original YouTube download code. In its place is a new YouTube downloader written from scratch. This new method is actually a little bit quicker, in fact.
And while we were in there, we added support for their new, high-quality videos. If the video is already in the format you want, there’s no conversion necessary!
It also still works for other video sites like The Onion, DailyMotion, Porkolt, TeacherTube, GodTube, GospelTube (not to mention the unmentionables PornHub, YouPorn, and RedTube).
We’ve tested with a ton of videos, but since this is all-new code, there’s always the chance that some video will wreck havoc. If you find any videos that file to download, please post it in the comments, or email it to us at support@stinkbot.com.

I take it this is a Mac only update, and those of us running Windows are out of luck.

We’re working on the Windows fix this weekend. Look for an update next week. Keep checking the blog; we’ll make an announcement when it’s ready.

Hi
My version of 3.0 Beta 17 is not converting the entire video, just a few seconds of the beginning. I am running Mac OS 10.5.5 using Safari.

I downloaded the latest beta today expecting working version of the program I purchased to actually work. I was wrong. I either wasted my money or, well, I guess I did. All I get is “bad URL” and a preview that looks like this:

We just downloaded 3.0 Beta 17 to an iMac running OS 10.4.11.
Tried downloading audio only for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkcYRc3d1WM
Got message “Download failed bad URL”
so sad that it’s still not working.

I downloaded Tubesock beta 3.0 beta 17. I entered a video from Youtube and Tubesock just quit. Repeatedly. I’m already registered (Feb 2007) and I put in the registration #. I tried a number of different videos and the result was the same. One video I tried was:

I’ve tried several YouTube videos now, in an attempt to rip audio and/or video, and it keeps saying “bad URL” and when I press the preview button, it just shows a bunch of writing instead of a video.

I get “bad URL” on all of my attempts. Here are a few of the ones that failed.

I installed V3.0b17 tonight and found that while it seems to download YouTube music videos, when I set it to do audio mp3 only and add to iTunes, it persists in downloading the file as an mp4 and I can’t find it in iTunes anywhere. However, a sample video download worked fine and ended up in the iTunes Movies folder where I wanted it. So what’s happening to the audio downloads and where are they going and why aren’t they coming in as mp3 files?

Steve: I just tested all of those with TubeSock beta 18 (on Leopard) and they are working. I will add them to the test file for Tiger and we’ll check them out today.

Thanks for the fix. I’ve tried it using the safari javascript link on several videos without any problems. Looking forward to the PC version update.

Max: Try beta 18 (above). It solves this particular problem (or at least it should).

Danny, Terri, and Nicci: Please try beta 18 (above). It should solve those problems. Thanks!

tresceibas: I saw that once with beta 17 on 10.4, but no longer with beta 18. Let me know if you see it again!
